Gastroenteritis in our elderly residents is undoubtedly one of the biggest challenges facing Residential Care Facilities.  Each year in Australia, an estimated 17.2 million cases of gastroenteritis (0.9 episodes per person per year) affect all age groups. Recently, serious outbreaks of food gastroenteritis occurring in aged care facilities (ACF’s) have captured public and media attention. It is extremely important that carers have a good understanding of how to manage it.
