Arthritis

Correct the myths surrounding arthritis and build a positive and proactive management program

Arthritis is the silent epidemic. Everybody has it, or knows someone who has it and everyone has their own home remedy or idea on how best to manage it. It’s even got multiple names – ‘the osteo’, arthritis, ‘rheumatism’ or one of the official names for around 150 variations of the condition.  Having the correct information on how to manage the different types of arthritis is a multidisciplinary approach and can be successful when well managed. Commonly we hear a large variety of ideas:

  • Rest more
  • Exercise more
  • Use heat
  • Use cold
  • Talk to your doctor
  • Talk to your physiotherapist

All these options are correct but to know when to use each is very important. Using the wrong approach can make a sufferer’s pain and disability worse.

That is why Wellness & Lifestyles has created the Arthritis e-learning module – it helps to solve these issues and clarify the correct methods of management.

What this e-learning module can do for you…

  • Provide ongoing education and ensure staff know how to correctly provide interventions to improve compliance and clinical outcomes
  • Provide resident education for a better understanding of their disease processes and encourage an active, self-responsible lifestyle
  • Lay the ground work for positive multidisciplinary management of arthritic conditions at your facility

Included in this e-learning module is…

  • Definitions and differentiations between the major types of arthritis
  • How arthritis is diagnosed
  • Look at the roles of physiotherapy in managing arthritis
  • Consider the basic medical and medication interventions for arthritis
  • Dispel current myths about arthritis

Who should use this e-learning module?

  • Education is suitable for personal care staff
  • As refresher for RN’s and EN’s
  • With supervision, for residents and families

By educating staff (and even your residents) you can assist in providing a background of knowledge and action, rather than fear and avoidance. This can be reflected in improved pain management, decreased social isolation and improved mobility – with the right multidisciplinary focus.

Given all these positives, why wouldn’t you utilise the Wellness & Lifestyles Arthritis e-learning module?
