ACFI – The Basics

How to improve your staff’s basic understanding of the ACFI and how it relates to the care we give and residents receive!

Do you find that new staff are starting at your facility with little or no understanding of the Aged Care Funding Instrument (ACFI)?  Is this affecting their documentation and your funding?  When it comes to treatments given, we commonly hear that carers:

  • Don’t understand the importance of reporting a change of resident status (that could affect their ACFI)
  • They’re doing the treatments, but not documenting, or
  • They just aren’t doing it because they don’t have the time (or staff) required

Wellness & Lifestyles Australia has identified that residents at aged care facilities rarely receive the interventions that are clinically indicated. Either this, or the residents are receiving the interventions but the site is not receiving remuneration for their costs.  The implementation of the ACFI however has led to a unique situation where, if documented correctly, a resident can receive the interventions and the site’s funding increases to a point greater than the cost of providing the service.

That is why Wellness & Lifestyles have created the ACFI – The Basics online training module, which helps to solve these issues and problems.

Who should use this online training module?

You and your staff should go through this online training if you have people at your facility involved in resident care that you’re concerned have very little knowledge of the ACFI and that you might not be getting the funding for services you’re already providing to your residents.

We’ve realised that not all staff at facilities need (or want) the same level of training regarding the ACFI and its’ components; the needs of care staff and clinical staff responsible for submitting the appraisals are quite different.

This session is set-out in a very basic format, where prior knowledge of the ACFI is not required. It’s important for all levels of staff to have an understanding of the basics of the ACFI and how this relates to the care we give and the resident receives. This e-learning module will help with care staff job satisfaction and compliance.
