With the continuing rise in people developing diabetes both T1 and T2, it’s important that we educate health professionals, patients, families and friends living with diabetes and the wider community to be aware of this health problem and what can be done.

You could ask, “Why do the training?” Let’s see? Do you have diabetes? Has someone you know or someone you look after got diabetes? I would imagine there would be only a few people who would answer no.
As health professionals, patients and people living with diabetes, understanding what diabetes is, what happens with diabetes and what you can do about it would be of interest and a helpful thing to know with a view to helping yourself and people you look after such as family, friends or residents in your care.
So sit back and be ready to take a journey that leads to better diabetes management!
What this training can do for you…
Training is a journey of questions and answers that lead to a better understanding of diabetes, like asking questions such as:

- What does it do?
- What can we do to stop it?
- How can I help?
In this journey there is no straight line, information will weave and take sharp corners sometimes until you reach the end of the journey.

- What diabetes is
- Differences between T1 and T2
- Treatment required from lifestyles changes to medications and insulins
- Signs and symptoms of diabetes
- Risk factors (modifiable/unmodifiable)
- Who is involved in diabetes management
- What are hypers and hypos and how to manage them
- Complications (micro/macro)
- Goals for best management
- Comprehensive section on foot complications and management
Who should use this training?
You should go through this training if you have diabetes, have anyone you know that has diabetes and if you are looking after anyone with diabetes with a view to understanding what diabetes is, what happens in diabetes and what you can do about it.
Clients who we have provided this training for have reported a better awareness of their condition and problems associated with diabetes. This has therefore enabled them to identify problems at the early stage of development and prevent complications.
This education session does not cover all possible ailments associated with diabetes; however it will provide a valuable core understanding for clients to look after themselves or carers to provide a higher level of care.
It is set out in an easy to follow format which will benefit both clients and carers. It is important for people with diabetes to understand and appreciate that management of diabetes is vital to maintaining quality of life.
