Safe and Effective Pain Management Using Hot Packs

Now you can be confident that pain management can be delivered safely and effectively to the people in your care

Prepared & Presented by: Michael Peachey

Do you provide pain management in the form of heat packs, but you’re not confident that you are applying it safely and effectively?

Do you prescribe heat treatment, but aren’t actually sure whether or not the people you give it to are suitable?

Has there ever been cases of people getting burnt by inappropriate heat treatment, the fire department being called out, or an actual fire itself?

You’re not alone. Many nurses have these issues, and some facilities have even needed to go so far as to ban this relatively safe and effective mode of pain management.

That is why Wellness & Lifestyles have created Pain Management – Heat Packs, which helps to solve these issues and problems.

What this training can do for you…

This training can:

  • Help you reduce risk by ensuring appropriate identification of who exactly is suitable for receiving heat treatment and should be determining this
  • Reduce risk by standardising heat preparation and application
  • Help ensure that the patients get the most benefit from the heat treatment!

Included in this training is…

  • Why use heat treatment – rationale
  • Determining resident suitability for heat treatment
  • Determining which type of heat treatment is most suitable
  • Care planning requirements
  • Safely applying the heat treatment
  • Documentation requirements, and
  • Reviewing suitability

Who should use this training?

You should go through this training if you are a personal carer or enrolled nurse involved in applying heat treatment, or you are a registered nurse involved in prescribing heat treatment… pretty much anyone involved in the process!

Pain-Management-Heat-Packs

As a result of this specific training, you can reduce the risk to safety, your facility, and your own liability!

We’re aware that this training cannot replace formalised practical assessment of competencies associated with prescribing and applying heat treatment. This training does, however, provide a framework so that everyone involved in the process should have the appropriate background knowledge.

This session will help you reduce risk and improve outcomes… because this presentation is based on frequently asked questions, frequent issues, best practice guidelines, and years of clinical experience.
