W&L Hot Tips 13 (November 2009) – Save Your Residents Money With DVA

W&L CAN NOW SAVE YOUR RESIDENTS MONEY BY SERVICING THEM THROUGH DVA (DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS’ AFFAIRS)!

  • Veterans who have been issued with a Repatriation Health Card are eligible for a range of health care services at no cost to the resident
  • Card colour determines eligibility for services
  • Gold card holders are eligible for services based on clinical need
  • White card holders are eligible for specific and accepted conditions only (eligibility must be established prior to the commencement of treatment)

GOLD (AND SOME WHITE) CARD HOLDERS CAN NOW BE SEEN BY W&L THERAPISTS IF THEY ARE ALREADY ON SITE

  • A referral MUST be obtained by the card holder’s general practitioner BEFORE a therapist can provide treatment
  • The referral can be on a DVA specific referral (D904), or on their letterhead (with the residents name, DVA number, referrer’s provider number, date and condition to be treated)
  • Low care residents – prior financial authorisation by DVA is not required, a referral and eligibility are the requirements
  • High care residents – once a veteran becomes high care all treatment provided requires prior financial authorisation from DVA (authorisation will only be given in exceptional circumstances such as where intensive long term rehabilitation services are required)

If you think some of your residents could benefit from services such as physiotherapy, podiatry, speech pathology and dietetics through this process please do not hesitate to contact us.
