Most of us take our ability to communicate for granted – our ability to understand and express language seems as natural as breathing. But what happens when our ability to communicate is impaired?
This is often the case after a stroke. A stroke may be ischemic (a blood clot or embolism) or hemorrhagic (bleeding in the brain). Language may be impaired when a stroke occurs in the left hemisphere of the brain, where our language centers are located.
