According to the State Government of South Australia publication “Don’t fall for it. Falls can be prevented! : a guide to preventing falls for older people” (2004) some shoes or slippers make the likelihood of falls greater. They state this especially likely in the older person due to changes in their feet such as swelling, pain, changes in shape (for example bunions or hammer toes) and decreased sensation. These changes can effect balance and the ease with which an older person walks.
